Category: Advice, Spiders
Australians are no strangers to living with creepy crawlies that are found around our homes and bushlands. Spiders, in particular, can be a nuisance, and sometimes even a danger. If you are looking to have a professional spider treatment carried out, here’s what you can expect:
Types of Treatments
- Surface Sprays: This is the most popular type of spider treatment. Technicians will apply a residual insecticide to areas where spiders are likely to harbor, such as:
- Eaves
- Window frames
- Door frames
- Underneath guttering
- Around downpipes
- Sheds and fences
- Weep holes
- Perimeters of the house
- Dusting: Insecticidal dusts may be used in roof voids and wall cavities to target spider populations.
- Web Removal: Existing spider webs will be removed to discourage new spiders from taking up residence.
Pre-Treatment Preparation
When having your property treated it’s good to make sure you are prepared to help get the most out of your spider treatment. This may include:
- Cleaning: You might need to clean surfaces where spiders are present, such as window sills and skirting boards. It is also a good idea to do this before the treatment so that you don’t wash away the barrier the pest controller applies.
- Decluttering: Removing items like boxes and toys from around the house perimeter can help the technician access all necessary areas. Inside you are also limited to where the pest controller can treat, so by clearing as many areas as possible they are able to treat more places.
- Moving Furniture: In some cases, you may need to move furniture away from walls to allow for proper treatment.
- Securing Pets: Pets should be kept away from treated areas until the insecticide has dried and it’s also important to move and food and water bowls away so no chemical gets into them.
During the Treatment

The technician will arrive at your property and conduct a thorough inspection to identify spider hotspots and assess the severity of the infestation. They will then apply the chosen treatment method, ensuring to target all areas where spiders are likely to live and breed.
Post-Treatment Care
- Ventilation: After the treatment, it’s important to ventilate your home to allow any fumes to dissipate.
- Avoid Cleaning: Refrain from cleaning treated areas for a certain period to allow the insecticide to remain effective.
- Follow-Up Inspections: Your technician may recommend follow-up inspections or treatments to ensure long-term spider control.
Safety Considerations
Professional pest control technicians use insecticides that are safe for humans and pets when applied correctly. However, it’s important to follow their instructions carefully and keep children and pets away from treated areas until it’s safe to return.
