Why termite inspections are important and how often you should have one carried out.
Termites are very small yet very powerful creatures that can eat 24-7. They are commonly known as a homeowner’s worst nightmare and have the ability to go undetected for long periods of time while silently attacking your house and by have a termite inspection carried out you stop them from going unnoticed.
If not stopped, they can cause serious damage to homes without giving a sign. There’s nothing worse than finding out that your family home which you’ve invested a lot of time and money into is being quietly and systemically destroyed by termites. Even though the initial cost of treating or preventing termites may seem high, if left untreated they will cause much more damage in the long term.
Termite damage isn’t covered by home insurance mainly because termites are classed as an “insect”, and unfortunately home insurance policies don’t cover damage caused by insects.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom by having a termite inspection by a fully qualified and licensed pest control technician, on a regular basis and by implementing a few precautions around the home, can effectively keep these destructive pests from destroying your much-loved home.
That’s where Pest Alert can help!
How Often Should I Get A Termite Inspection?
According to Australian Standard AS3660.2, professional termite inspections should be conducted at least once every 12 months, and ideally more than once for high-risk homes. This is especially the case for high-risk sites, such as timber or steel and masonry homes located in bushland or built-up urban areas.
All property owners, whether they live in a new or old house, should invest in regular inspections. Even if you are living in a brand-new home, you could still be susceptible to termites. Ideally, all homeowners should get inspected once a year. Older homes do tend to be more at risk for termites, making it absolutely essential to not only stay vigilant about inspecting your home yourself on a regular basis but also get a professional’s opinion every single year.
